Matanzas View

CUBA

A seaport city, the population is approx. 250,000 and built on 3 rivers and also along the bay of Matanzas. There seems to be the big city affectation here, with much more bustle and industry in evidence. We ate at a government sponsored restaurant here and invited Osvaldo to eat with us there. The cost of the lunch for 3 people, including our 4 pina coladas was a whopping $12.

This view was of the city centre from the top of a hill as we left from the restaurant, hastily taken rom the back of the taxi

....and to think in Hawaii that $12 will get you ONE Pina Colada.....but I guess with an average wage of around $30/mo. even this paltry lunch bill is out of reach of the everyday Cuban!

Your anecdotes that you have so thoughtfully provided make this trip seem very tangible to me even through I wasn't there. The street behind looks like it contains a thousand great pictures and many more stories. ~BV~

Twelve dollars for lunch! That's a bargain. Great job with this shot taken from the back of the cab. Must have had pretty clean windows. V
