The Train Station

Cardenas, a place of firsts: the first railroad in Matanzas Province; the first electrical plant for the provision of public lighting in Cuba (September, 1889). It was second in the world, behind New York; the first place on Cuban soil over which the national flag flew, dubbing Cárdenas as "The Banner City"; and oddly enough, the first place over which the American Flag flew in Cuba.

Once a vital hub of activity we were told that the train only runs once a day from here

Superb lighting and tones. The solitary man and bicycle add to the moodiness of this scene. One of the best in this great gallery. "V"

The bicycle is unlocked...but watched out by the man behind. I can guaranty you that otherwise it would have evaporated at light speed.

Very moody image, big vote
I can see that things have not changed since the last time I was there (2009)
My Cuban friends would find me crazy when I asked them t how to travel by train.

One bright note.....the bicycle sits unlocked.....here in North America it would have been stolen before you could turn on your camera to get this wonderfully composed shot.BV
Well maybe it will get stolen there too but I choose to believe it won't.

It does have a huge sense of abandonment and desolation. Seeing and reading this makes me very curious to see what the train looks like. Expertly photographed. ~BV~
