My name is Michael...like the Arc†Angel. After Zeissy, I feared you were in the wind. Now I have this–which is a vast new discovery. Time is my enemy now. m

Hi Carol
I have been looking through you galleries, very very nice photography!
It's interesting that both of us have been members of PBase for 5 years now and I don't think that I have come across your work before.
Have added you to my favorites list!

Thanks very much for your comments Milan. I'm trying to think what might be the reason(s). My workflow is I always (98%) of the time shot in raw, and most always in standard mode for colour. I almost always shoot in manual mode as well to help produce the effect I think I see, or want, in camera. Doesn't always work, but hey- I try.
My post processing is in camera raw and then if needed or wanted, I do some additional photoshop touches, mostly contrast. The big dynamic range of the D800 really does provide much deeper blacks and provides less chances of blow out on the lights, so I am not afraid to pop in even more contrast in post production.
Cuba in early December, the light was absolutely wonderful and many of the shots were early morning....so good contrast but not overpowering contrast.
Also - good chance the other difference you might be seeing is the great optics of my Carl Zeiss lenses... In cuba I used the 50 and 35mm pretty well exclusively.
Oh, I almost forgot, I did use a polarizing filter many times.
The D800 is an amazing camera.
Hope this all helps you with your decision.
Cheers,
Carol

hi ann!
i was looking at somme d800 photos at pbase and found yours
and was amazed how film like they looked in your great CUBA
series! did you use filters or are there some film-like factory presets?
the rest in the internet i saw from other sources looked pretty flat and sterile
and because i am thinking bying a D800 i would be glad if you would send me some info

thank you!

It's obvious I have lost my mind. It has been a while since I've been roaming around Pbase. Had some time and reflected back at your gallery. Showing my age, I commented on the same picture I did over a month ago. That goes to show you how much I enjoy your work. All I need now is a better memory to go with my comments. Great job. Enjoyed visiting.

Your galleries have been a revelation, and inspire me to do more creative work. I was in your beautiful country for a very short business trip a month ago, and I just wish the opportunity would come again to spend more time there.

Terrible I forgotten a message to one my Favorite artist on pbase. i like your work ,I think in the same spirit of me, you like the nature and its colors and mood, the colors in general and to work on a theme without a special sens only for the sensibility of your eyes and mind.Always a special pleasure ,never disappointed.Have Ann a continues work as you made.
