Construction is a brick covered steel frame clad in 18-8 stainless steel, the first use of stainless steel in an American project.
Construction started on September 19, 1928 and completed on May 27, 1930.
At a height of 1,046 feet it was, at completion the first man made structure to exceed 1000 feet.
It is now seen as a paragon of the Art Deco architectural style; and in 2007, it was ranked ninth on the List of America's Favorite Architecture by the American Institute of Architects. (Wikipedia)
