Beacon Rock

Columbia River Gorge, WA

This 848 foot high basalt rock is considered one of the highest free standing monoliths in the world.
On October 31, 1805, the Lewis and Clark Expedition arrived here and first measured tides on the river, indicating that they were nearing the Pacific Ocean.

Beautiful light and image. Reminds me somewhat of The Canyon Of The Gods in Colorado and the monoliths there. Voted

Nicely shot! Don't know how I missed this the times I was along the Columbia River.
