Seventy years ago on June 6, 1944 156,000 allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy France.
They established a beachhead in preparation for the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi tyranny.
On that day 4,414 brave soldiers gave their life to protect the freedoms we all cherish today.
