Pennsylvania Railroad GG-1 #4935

Strasburg, PA

The famous, powerful GG-1, with a maximum 8,500 horsepower, these 11,000 volt electric engines were designed and built by the Pennsylvania Railroad starting in 1934.
Number 4935 was built in 1943 and restored in 1977 it continued in service until 1983, when it was presented to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania where it is now on display.

excellent shot, what a great machine - I'm going to have to get there, I always forget the museum's out there - great angle & compo - you really captured the art deco influence behind the design and yellow paint striping - V

Wow, instant memory from so long ago ... I must have been 6 or 8 years old then, it was THE BIGGEST thing I had ever seen and was totally facinated by it ... still am actually. Beautiful shot Clarence
