This park located less than 40 miles away from downtown Houston is a real gem. It is rated as one of the top 10 state parks in the nation, that's quite a status considering there are some spectacular state parks in the southwest. More than 290 species of birds have been identified in the park, and there are alligators and many other wild life that make this park their home. It is not a place that offers grandiose scenery compared to those in the southwest, but it has really grown on me and become the favorite place for my weekend outings.
