This is a photo I took this past summer. My kids did an experiment where they took small hard orbs (not sure what they were made of) and immersed them in water. The orbs grew as they absorbed the water. They took on the shape of marbles, but were gooey and would sag under their own water weight. The sun was low on the horizon and left nice shadow patterns on the rock I placed them upon.
