Physically, Toshi is one of the toughest men I have ever met. Just when I was ready to drop from exhaustion, Toshi would come jogging down the trail with a flask of tea and some cookies. Toshi's brother died on Mt. Everest as a Sherpa climbing guide. Toshi's mother had made him promise that he would work only as a trekking guide, and so would stay off the mountain. He was the head of our Sherpa guides, and one really fine guy.
