My Music Autobiography

Melody N' Harmony...

~ My Saxophone and Clarinet ~

A little about My Music:

I started playing Clarinet in the 2nd Grade; 7-8 Years Old
I started playing Saxophone in the 5th Grade; 10-11 Years Old

I took Professional Lessons by Les Ewing, and another???
We studied Jazz, Contemporary, Classical and Gospel

Some of my Favorites are: Phil Driscoll, Al Hirt, Kenny G, and others-not remembering all right now!

My Main Focus is Gospel, however, I do enjoy the others, especially during My 'quiet-time'!!

During My School Years, I stayed in the '1st Chair' competitively, there were Annual Tryouts to obtain these Chairs in our School Band.
Our Band played in the Football Games and Marching for Various Programs...

I had the opportunity to do a Major State Tryout in OKLA City, OK in the latter of my School years. I experienced getting '2nd Chair' for the very first time, and this was amongst 50 of us Saxophone Players trying out for the same Competition. This was a huge all-day event, and after all the Tryouts we put on a Grand Performance 'in our Chair' for our Parents, which was wondrous to the ears! The Judges had told me that if I would not of been so nervous I would have gotten my 1st Chair, as my Techniques were better than the one they had chosen, however, her smoothness to the skill outwon mine, as I was so NERVOUS! But, I won a Medal for the special day!

At the end of my School Year, of age (ha!) the 2nd Chair fellow in Band told me, "thanks,
for letting me have 1st Chair now"! We would have great Competition during our latter School Years together :}

I joined JCM: Jackson College of Ministries, in Jackson, MS, and studied Music as my Major.
With my main focus at this time, steered towards Gospel. I was there for One Semester, and really enjoyed it. It was a good experience and I enjoyed going into the Piano Rooms to practice Piano as well as my Sax, and jam with the other folks that got together in there! That is all the Piano I know, which is not much!

During all of this time (through the years), I played in our Church Orchestra. Sometimes there were other Musicians, and sometimes there weren't; depending on when and where we attended at the time; however, it was a great enjoyment, and it was here - that I learned to play by 'ear', without Sheet Music, and we could really get together and jam on Sunday afternoons!

I come from a Talented Musical Family Background... My Dad is HOT with the Accordion and travels with the Accordion Club at times-being a part of their Club weekly, he also plays the Piano and Organ. My Mom can play the Accordion and Piano. My older Sister plays the Guitar (now... I don't know the name of it, but a regular good-pickin' Guitar, and my little Sister plays the Clarinet. Both my Sisters play as a part of their Church Orchestra, and My Dad plays 'Specials' for his Church. We all focus on playing Gospel Music, in addition to My Dad being an excellent Polka Player!

Me: I need to get back into it again :} There are many things that have kept me from playing 'Outside'... Maybe - some day ~ if and when it is meant to be, I can play again for the Church... When I play/practice at home, I play some of my 'Oldies of Variety I used to play, and, for just plain enjoyment, in addition to giving the Lord 'Glory' for the Talent He has given to me :}

Well... I had been wanting to post something about the Music aspect of myself for a while now, and, finally got it done!
I hope you have enjoyed reading/viewing this Gallery as I enjoyed sharing with you :}
