Inventing Solutions

My father bought this truck for $80 from a plumber in 1963 to haul supplies for building our family home in Ojai.
The bed and tailgate were beat up from hard use. I built this tailgate from mahogany when I was 16
to replace the original that was smashed beyond my ability to save it.
Likewise, wood on inside and outside of the bed was my solution for covering dents at that time.

Taillights were from a 1967 VW Bug (meaning current OEM in the late 60's.)

In the 60's beer kegs were rounded so they could be "steered" when rolling them around.
Current beer kegs are straight cylinders. This 15 gallon beer keg replaced the original gas tank
that was fitted under the back of the bed from just in front of the license plate.
I had to replace the wine cork on the side of the keg that holds fuel in at the 7.5 gallon level :P

Gas cap was my original 36 cap and spout modified with a faux knockoff (wheel trim popular in the 60's.)
