Fire on El Hierro

We had hot and dry days, air coming from the Sahara, when our beautiful, very old forest started to burn. It was last sunday. We drove to the village to help. For me there was nothing to do, so i observed, how the first, but already dangerous, flames crept forewards, until the heat made trees explode in fire. The helicopters helped a lot, so many trees were saved. The younger Canary pinetree has the ability to regenerate after a while, but many old trees died.
The official fire-brigates struggeled until today (wednesday), but still it became the biggest fire, the island ever had. Three and four years ago the forest was burning also and all the people, who lived here, helped together to stop the fire. Maybe personal, private responsibility worked better.-
Of course there are still many glowing spots. So we must hope, that the wind stays low.
