When I first started doing macrophotography in late June 2006, this was one of the first images that I captured. This longhorn beetles decent into a Red Orbit daylily seemed to take on a mystical quality that just spirals me deeper into the image. The composition was framed in the viewfinder and the image seen here is full frame. Lighting consisted of two strobes, one to the left side of the beetle and one behind the flower to trans-illuminate the yellow eye of the daylily.
