Mussoorie

Mussoorie is a hill station located right near the small town of Dehradun in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Originally built by the British as a military post, this mountainous region is now a resort. From atop Mussoorie you can see the valley of Dehradun.

dehradun has always meant a lot to me more than a mere city ........i simply love this city ......i spent the most finest moments wid ma angel in this city only ....but she is now gone ...plsss every body visiting this comment box pray that she comes back to me .....missing u a lot ....waiting for u .......even beyond eternity if its(eternity) sumthing .

I live in India for last 40 years but never visited Mussoorie.... Planning to be there after a week, just searching stuff on Internet to know what to do And happen to see this site . . . seems it is a must visit ? Lets see I am from Army . . .and have been to Kashmir, Joshimath, Shillong etc. Lets see how this place is going to be.

Beautiful pictures capturing the real Mussoorie, I passed from Oak Grove School spent so many years in this beautiful place. Now each year I visit this place for a month or so and come back refreshed. good luck

Hi Steven, Thanks for the beautiful photographs. I was last in Mussoorie in 1947 when I was schooling at Allen Memorial School. In your picture "Part of Mussoorie" I can just see the "Bala Hissar" part of Allen. This is the white building nearest the top right hand corner. It has been built since I left. The rest of the picture is fascinating, I've never seen this side of town before. Many thanks Steven, Derek Hargrave

yes elizabeth,the english were in mussoorie in 1892..infact they were very well established by then.i know coz i went to a school which was founded in 1888 called wynberg allen.it was an amazing experience

i was a student at the Manor house from 1974-1979, and loved every minute of it, still talk about it to my kids.I am currently in Brisbane , Australia, but still remember the days, when we were given Rs 15 for the outing to town. Rs3 for the movie, Rs 5 for lunch, Rs 2 for the softy, and rest for the comics. Anyone remember that.?

have a sepia photograph of mussourie - showing the village and church with mountains in the background - on the back is written - "House where Mother was born and church where she and Father were married - 1892" Charlotte P. Cole. This picture was discovered in and Aunt's house in England. How it came to be in her possession is a mystery - so I am attempting to find more information. Do you know if the English would have been in Mussourie at this date.

Its always feel good factor to be a part of Dehradun and Mussourie. Nice pictures. I went to St. George's College (Manor House) from 1976-1982, and now settled in Minneapolis, MN USA. I do visit Mussoorie every time I visit India, once in 3-4 years, and I still miss it.

Couldn't help noticing how many of the comments posted here are from those of us who had the good fortune of having been born in Mussoorie or of having lived there. I am from Dehra and have worked at and lived in Mussoorie for several years. Am in Canada now and far away from India and home now, but, like so many others, I miss my Mussoorie immensely. As Ruskin Bond said, if you have lived in the hills for some time, you belong to them, and feel compelled to return to them again and again. Mussoorie becomes a part of your heart and soul. You simply cannot let go.Thanks so much Steven, for taking us homesick Mussoorites on a much needed trip down Memory lane. Lovely pictures!!!

Lovely pictures, planning to come and visit next year. Was born in Mussoorie, left for England in 1959. Now living and teaching in Northern Finland. It's funny as I have become older Mussoorie comes to mind more often. Now that it is easy to fly direct to Delhi from Helsinki for 650 euros, can't wait

I grew up in Mussoorie and went to Hampton Court. Since them I have travelled far and wide. Now I am settled in Europe. And been to Switzerland. But the call of Camels back road and the Gun hill trolley ride and the fake sugar cigerettes of Company bagh are things I always remember. That place was wonderul, is a bit commercialized (I visited in 2001). But still, worth visiting. Mussoorie fans drop me email at sachinkagarwal@gmail.com.
