See how the two chicks point in opposite directions?
I had to keep them indoors overnight under a warm sock
when the mother was found dead by our neighbor. Both chicks
were raised together by an Audubon specialist and we
were present for their release into the wild city woods.
I measured the nest at 1" across inside, and 1 1/2" outside.
This is a good chance to note how it's made of lichen and spiderweb
and lined with fine downy material.
