On a cold winter day back in the late 1800's a fellow got in big trouble out on the ice near this spot. He prayed to the Saints to help him survive, which he somehow did. To give thanks for his survival, he commissioned this statue of "Our Lady of Saguenay" to be constructed and installed on this site overlooking the fjord.
