EAST BRUNSWICK- On May 15, 2008 around 3:30pm a retired Newark police officer rendered assistance to an East Brunswick police officer who lost control of his patrol car on Route 18 south just before the Main Street exit. The patrol car swiped the center median for about 150 feet before coming to rest in the left hand lane against the concrete median. All units were dispatched to the scene. The OBVFD was requested to assist in the extrication of the officer from the vehicle. The officer was taken by ambulance to RWJUH where he was listed in stable condition. The cause of the accident was under investigation.The accident resulted in a partial road closure both north and southbound.
