This Squirrel Mugged Me!

Burke Lake Park, Virginia

It thought I was Paparazzi. I was kneeling on the ground to take the squirrel's photo when it suddenly jumped onto my right shoulder.
First it investigated my ear, then leaned forward to see my nose, then climbed around my back, and then to my left shoulder.
When it finally determined I wasn't a tree it jumped to the ground, ran off, and found a real one.
I laughed the entire time and for quite a while after.

Prior to the mugging I took a few photos but it kept moving too close for the lens I was using.
So, I kept shuffling backwards and then it would follow. I think that is why it jumped to my shoulder.
This was the best shot I got.

Great shot!! Lucky you didn't get bit. One confused squirrel apparently. Though he sure does look angelic.

LOL @ Bob's "eagle" comment. I always ask my wife to hold out her index finger so an eagle will land on it so I can take a picture. Sayer, I couldn't quite make out if that's a hand reflection in the squirrel's eye or your entire body.

He looks like he's going to say, "Now, Sayer, we need to talk about photo royalties."

He looks innocent enough but just in case I would check your camera gear to make sure he didn't pickpocket any of your equipment! Janet

LOL.. Sayer the story does not surprise me at all. All the wild creatures know who their friends are! Now if you can perform the same trick with an eagle...

Too funny! Are you for real?? I would have freaked totally!
But you did manage to get a good shot. I like the selective focus of the head in this one.
(Don't know if that was intended, in the frenzy, but it works very well.
Bravo!
