Bald Eagle

Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge

Enjoying the warm evening light.

The 400mm lens was not enough, so I added the 1.4x and 2x teleconverters resulting
in a focal length of 1,120mm (1,800 with digital crop factor) and an aperture of f/16.
This combination requires careful manual focusing and a lot of luck to get a decent shot.

The Bald Eagle was severely affected by the use of the pesticide DDT and by the mid 1960's
there were fewer than 500 nesting pairs left in the continental USA.
Their numbers are slowly but steadily climbing in the USA and Canada.

Your several eagle photos are delightful. If toxin levels are reduced, many epidemics may subside.

Beautiful photo Sayer. I like the uncluttered background. That really make the eagle stand out.

Fantastic capture!! It wasn't luck that you got this photo... it was skill. Thank you for all the information... I remember being taught in school that they were endangered, but didn't know why.
