I'm guessing that this is some sort of Crane Fly.

Looks like a crane to me also. I'd gotten a shot of one's exoskeleton last year, but that's it. One did buzz by me in the yard last week, so looks like we'll have a good year for them. I agree with Linda, after learning more about them I won't be swatting any of them either. Amazing insects. Great shot of this guy.

It certainly is a crane fly, but what is baffling me is that its rather early for one of these to be out and about. We normally get these in August/September! I managed to get a couple last year but not very good pics, and I have to admit that they are one of those insects that you would normally swat with a newspaper because they irritate you flitting around the house, but after studying the photos I took I wont do that again, their little bodies are incredibly complex and intrigueing. Great shot by the way lol.
