Comparison test of several different noise reduction programs.

This is a comparison of two programs for noise reduction: Neat Image and Topaz DeNoise. Both are used as plug-ins for PS CS4. Two shots were made with my Olympus E-620 at ISO 3200 (as extreme as you can get). Each was processed by the noise reduction software and are shown along with the original so you can judge which is best and how well they work. I also processed the noise-reduced files through another Topaz plugin called DeJPEG which reduces JPEG artifacts. These have DJ appended to the file name. I think that cleans up the files even more and they are also shown so you can compare. My conclusion: DeNoise plus DeJPEG can produce a pretty good file from a very noisy one. Neat Image is just "adequate" but does improve with the use of DeJPEG. The original sizes are 1600 x 1200 which is enough to shown the noise and its reduction. Feel free to copy any of these down to make comparisons on your computer.
