Comparison of Macro Methods

This is a series of close-focused shots. Those made with the Sigma 105mm are shot with a true macro lens. One is at 1:4 magnification and the second at 1:2. Those following were all shot with a Zuiko 17.5-45mm (kit) zoom lens at 45mm. I used a set of Hoya close-up lenses: +1, +2, both together for +3, then with a +4 added to make a +7. The magnifications ranged from 1:7 to 1:38 using the Hoya close-up lenses. These are easily determined by the image of the mm scale, and knowing that the Olympus 4/3rds sensor has a width of 17.3mm. The last two were shot using the "macro" component of a wide-angle accessory lens and the magnification is 1:1.73. In visual comparison of quality, I am amazed to see essentially the same quality with either method.
