Eagles, even bald eagles, are seen often along the Mississippi and Missouri rivers bordering Iowa. Sometimes they are seen near one of the larger reservoirs but then very far away. In nearly 50 years I've never seen them in central Iowa, but last week there were four of them near a gravel pit just 8 miles away. From their sizes I'd judge male, female and two of last years juniors. I managed to get a number of shots. There was even a hawk not very far away. The larger one (the male I expect) sat alone and aloof until a flock of red-winged black birds flew right through his tree and disturbed him. I got one shot as he dropped from his perch and took off. The hawk departed as well! As I went down the road home I saw a hawk (perhaps the same one) sitting on a fence post and got a couple of shots before he departed, but I then got a couple of lucky shots of him in the air. I hope bird lovers enjoy these pictures.
