I heard this local train as I was coming south in to Washington IN. He got out ahead of me, and I caught up with him along Indiana Hwy 50. However, I was unable to get a shot because I was unfamiliar with the area and couldn't get trackside for a decent shot. After he did some switching at Frichton, the train came on to Vincennes.

After waiting for a couple north bounds, 647 gets rolling south again.

Several hours later we are able to catch up to Q647 as it moves south of Evansville over the flood plain.

Q121 is right behind Q129. There were 6 SB trains in a row, so apparently something was going on up north.

Fully loaded and ready to go north, but no crew.

There were zero trains moving between Evansville and Terre Haute because of a washout at north Dewey on the north side of Terre Haute. We found northbound trains parked in nearly every siding between Vincennes and TH. Once the track was repaired, this NB stack was the first through, idling here at walking speed until it cleared the repair.

Q120 is well past the washout now and rolls across the very swollen Wabash River at Clinton.

After Q120 cleared, Q647 heads south. The Wabash is very very high.

My first shot of this train was in Henderson this morning at 6:22 am. Henderson is 9 track miles from Howell Yard at Evansville. From Evansville to this shot in Stacer is 14 miles, and this pic was taken at 11:44. That makes 23 miles in 5 hrs 22 minutes. Wow.

This train is in the limp home mode as the lead engine shut down south of Princeton.

The storied L&N Pigeon Creek Bridge. Built in 1908, this short line ran from Howell Yard to the L&N depot on Fulton Ave, which was served from the north by CE&I.
Trains coming in to the station would use the wye at north Howell to turn and shove back the mile or so to the station.
The line now serves Berry Plastics.

The bridge on the right was a vehicle bridge until a more modern structure was built a few years ago.
It is undergoing restoration and will be a key link in the Pigeon Creek greenway project underway in Evansville.

New arrival to Evansville. Q554 is normally a Louisville to Owensboro train, but now terminates in Evansville. This may be a result of construction on the CSX Texas line, or Doyle Yard in Owensboro is no longer operating.

Over Memorial Day weekend and some time after that, CSX crews removed all rail, ties and ballast from the ballast deck and started from new. The long troublesome concrete ties are gone, replaced with wood. With this repair, the viaduct is good for 50MPH. This hot SB intermodal takes advantage of the new speeds.

Thanks to a heads up from a rail fan friend in Vincennes, I was able to catch the Ringling Brothers circus train at CSX Howell yard in Evansville. Here the train is working its way through North Howell.

A Southbound Q514? This one was throwing me for a loop, then I found that the train had been dropped in a siding south of Madisonville and the power returned to the yard. This is a re-crew returning to pick up the train.

Y207 shoves plastic hoppers towards Berry Plastics in downtown Evansville. In times past, this line was used to shuttle passengers from L&N Howell Yard to their station at Fulton ave and Division Street. Berry is the only customer that remains on the line.

One of two trains that still move on the old B&O east of Vincennes. This is V502 that moves coal from Wheatland IN to the power plant at Cayuga.

Love the B&O signals that so far still remain on the line.

Since there is no connection from SB on the CE&D to EB on the B&O, trains must go west to Illinois to swap ends. Because of the flooding west of Vincennes, this one had to go to Lawrenceville to swap.
