The principal said we could have the closing ceremony as long as the weather is fine. The day was sunny and it was decided that the closing ceremony would be held today.

Everything was so organised. It was as if the children knew what they were supposed to do. All of them were invloved in cleaning and putting up decorations in the school. We were impressed. I was not involved as I was in charge of taking photos.

In the afternoon, some villagers came to the school to watch the performace. Every standard had at least 1 performance and they put in their best for us. There were the Lijiang and Peacock dance and even the nursary children put up a dance for us. The children were in their traditional Bai costumes. They were beautiful.

We had a performance for the school and we tried our best. The sound from the speaker drowned our voices and most of the time, they could only see the actions. We sang 4 different songs, which were representatives of the 4 different ethnic groups from Singapore. Towards the end of our performace, we had the friendship dance and even invited the children to dance with us.

After the closing ceremony, we had our last chance to go back to class. We had some gifts for them but we did not know how to give it to them. We decided to give them a small test. The student would get the gift when he answered our question correctly. I could still remember Xiaoqian. She refused to answer even though she knew the answer and she was the last person who did not receive the present from us. Eventually all the presents were given and we had a class photo taken with them before we left.

In the afternoon, most of the people in the group went ~{9E3G~} to do some shopping and only a few of us stayed behind. That was the chance for me to go up the mountains. I went out of the school and walked around the village. At the entrance of the villagem, I saw Haiyue and she brought me to Xiaoqian's shop. Xiaoyan was having some fried rice and it looked like the ones we cooked. Maybe it was the colour of the rice. Anyway, Haiyan, Xiaoyue and a primary 5 girl brought me to the cave. They knew it was going to be dark and Xiaoqian brought some candles from her shop.

On the way to the cave, the girls prayed in the small temple. I found out from them that the god was Earth God and they prayed for safe journey up the mountain. Along the way, they ate fruits they plucked on the trees, I tasted the fruits and it was sweet. When we reached the entrance of the cave, Xiaoqian prepared the candles by cutting them into shorter pieces and shaving them so that the wick could be lit. I was surprised that she actually kept a small knife with her all the time, for all kinds of purposes. That was the 3rd and maybe last time I had actually been to the cave. The first time was with Hongyang, Jinhe and friends and the second time was with Junlin. The girls did not dare to venture further when Haiyan saw bats on the wall.

Well, in any case, it was another great experience inside, this time with candles lighting up the darkness. There were engravings of names on the walls, Xiaoqian wanted to look for her name but could not find it.

On the way back, they talked about themselves and their lives in the village. The 3 of them were actually from another village, and their family background was rather complicated. They had 2 names each. I could remember Haiyue's ambition vividly, a farmer's wife. So simple, so real, what do you think would have happen if she saw city life? She would lose that smile. I still remember the day when she misunderstood the primary 4 teachers and cried just because the primary 4 teachers did not get to teach them. Does this happen in Singapore? Do Singapore kids appreciate their teachers?
