Enjoyed these photos. I have an old photo of the Bennington elevator taken in the 1920's. The metal siding was not yet added, just the wooden siding seen under the metal seen in this photo. My grandfather ran it at that time and the house just north of the elevator was where my father and uncle were raised.

I grew up in Portis, KS, and love the memories of all the photos. Windmills and courthouses, sunflowers and native stone. Great place to grow up and great memories when one returns. MtK

I grew up in Anthony, Ks. I moved away about 20yrs ago and I've never been back. Thank you for the memories. My house was just behind the courthouse to the left of your picture.

Great pictures - thank you for sharing your talent and perspectives. Do you have any more pictures of the Farmers Union Elevator coal shed? They were companions of so many elevators back when America cooked and heated with coal. I am building an HO scale diorama of an elevator. Thank you for your time.

These are great. I love Kansas. Let me know when you ever go through Russell. Six of us lived in a little bitty house at 51 S Lincoln St. (4 sisters and my grandparents) Grandpa was a roustabout for DX/Sunray Oil. Keep up the great work! Great travelogue of a very underrated state. Originally from Hutchinson, I frequently return just so I can gaze at the flat high plains and great skies of western Kansas.
