Lake Pukeko and Mount Cook

Lake Pukeko lies at the foot of Mount Cook (NZ's highest) and is fed by the meltwater from the glaciers that form above the permanent snowline. Finely powdered rock ground up by the glacier and suspended in its meltwater is responsible for the amazing blue colour of the water, resulting from scattering of the sunlight.
