PYGMY MARMOSETS

Pygmy marmosets are the world's smallest monkeys, with a maximum body length of less than six inches. The ones featured in this gallery are residents of the tropical house at Newquay zoo, a large walk-through free flight aviary with a few other creatures present. As a fan of marmosets, I really wanted some shots of these tiny chaps, my first thought on entering the tropical house was that I was going to be lucky to SEE one, never mind get a decent shot. I wandered through, snapping a few birds, light levels were very low so anything moving quickly was going to blur, even using 800 ASA. I was just muttering about who's idea it was to exhibit 5 inch monkeys in a building full of trees when I glanced up at a branch - straight into the eyes of a marmoset, fortunately I was quite close and managed to squeeze off a couple of shots before it ran back into cover. Hanging around for another hour or so, I managed to get a few more shots before they threw me out as the zoo was closing.
