Pleasant Point is a small village on State Highway 8 about 20 kilometres West of Timaru in South Canterbury. For many years the people enjoyed a community sponsored 33 metre swimming pool, diving well and toddlers paddling pool. Latterly the pool was handed to the local authority for operation and maintenance. When the pool closed for the season on 8 March 2009 the water temperature was 17 degrees celsius.
In July 2009, work commenced on a complete makeover. A prefabricated Italian kitset was inserted into the 33 metre well to provide a 25 metre lap pool, with a learner's and paddling pool in the remaining 8 metres.
Crucial to the project was the installation of a gas fired boiler which could be set to maintain a water temperature of 26 degrees in the Lap pool and 29 degrees in the subsidiary pools.
