Daurian Redstart
Another male was also seen hopping along the electronic ticket barrier when entering the park. This species seems to live alongside humans no problems, and is often seen perched on buildings especially.

Sichuan's capital Chengdu is typically a great place to find this bird, either around Du Fu's Thatched Cottage (actually easier in the surrounding parkland), at the Chengdu University Grounds, or in the vicinity of the Giant Panda Breeding Centre in the city.

This pair responded very well to a bit of playback on this occasion, although "let me down" just a few weeks later when I returned with a tour, when there was no sight nor sound of them!
30 May 2006
Tibetan Snowcock
This bird was found by one of the group when we took a break on the long journey between Ruoergai on the Tibetan Plateau and Jiuzhaigou. As we clambered about the scree slopes looking for birds someone picked up this nesting snowcock hiding amongst the rocks.
