Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe: probably the most photographed spot in the area. This is the only "bay" on the lake. Tahoe is roughly rectangular, having been formed by the dropping of a large block of mountain, creating the depression which filled to a depth of over 1,600 feet. The bay was formed by a glacier which flowed from right to left, scouring out the land and leaving behind the small island of more resistant rock.
