The entire area from the top of Donner Pass to the area surrounding the town of Truckee is populated by granite boulders from house size to slingshot ammunition. They were carried by the glacier that formed the valley of the Truckee River and the Donner Lake basin. The area is home to Ponderosa Pine, Lodgepole Pine, Red Cedar and some deciduous trees.
