San Francisco Police Department badges are made of several metals,during the WWII. many of the SF

badges were made out of cooper because limited supply of metals. The Department did return to

sterling silver in the later years. the main hallmark for SF badges is Irvine&Jachens a family

company still in business today.


Collecting police badges is not a new hobby,since the 40's there have been well known collectors,

some of the famous collectors are Elvis (singer), Bud Abbott(comic), Buddy Hackett (comic),

STRANGE BADGE HISTORY
In 1994 officer James Guelff star#1461 was shot and killed while on duty, his partner John Payne#64

was injured. In 2004 10 years later Officer Isaac Espinoza was shot and killed his badge number is

was #64 his partner Barry Parker that was injured was #1461.

On September 3, 1921 Arbuckle took a break from his hectic film schedule and drove to San Francisco

with two friends, movie directors Lowell Sherman and Fred Fischbach. The three checked into the St.

Francis Hotel, decided to have a party and invited several women to their suite. During the

arousing a 30-year-old aspiring actress named Virginia Rappe became seriously ill and was examined

by the hotel doctor, who concluded her symptoms were mostly caused by intoxication.

After two trials resulted in hung juries the third ended in an acquittal and a written apology from

the jury.
