Exit The Ghetto

It was not easy as a young Thai man to grow
up in the inner city. Life was rough, and times
were tough. By the time night came around, we were
pretty much 'stuck' in our small apartment, our
humble abode.

At night, we'd hear alarms go off, babies crying,
cats screeching, and yes, even guns popping.
I found comfort in music, and photography.
I always longed to 'exit' the hood.

Every now and then, when I have to pass by the area, it is, as my old friend
Hoss Funk said, "a torture ride" that brings back
bad memories.

And yet, there were many good memories of good times,
and fun. It sounds funny, but sometimes I long to be
back again, to go back in the day.

That capture is MARVELOUS! And I am touched, to learn about that poetic side of your life.
I have a very similar story, from the place I grew up back in Brazil...unfortunately, I can't go back to that specific neighborhood to take pictures of it, if I try I would never come back, because the criminals took over the whole town, even the police are afraid to go there. Ahh, as always I must leave my little support for your wonderful work...VOTED

I do not know the ghetto ,the bronx...in France there are some place like that. The name is "Banlieue " where there are a lot of people of different origins. The most famous is in MARSEILLE in the south near the Mediterranee Sea.ZIDANE lived all his childhood in this one.I do not know why your shoot give me so nostalgic time.V

sam, we all are having our torture rides....currently visible or invisible..
basically there are all stored in our head/thoughts....you learned to
ignore them and focus on the now.....yaaay....the only way out...
