The Digital Eccentric

Gear lovers, my online equipment blog on blogspot is up.
I hope it will be informative, and entertaining for all who love
photographic gear as much as I do. I hope you enjoy, and I do
value your visits. Sorry about the name of the site; someone
said I was "eccentric" and it stuck!

First up is a VERY lengthy Nikon D200 Mid-Year Report,
and also a first impressions on the Sony Alpha A100.
Both can be found at http://www.d-eccentric.com

As always, expect the unexpected...

Nikon D1x

Ah... got it ;) I've just checked them.. they do have a little silver thing like that one but with just one hole :))) I am glad I've asked you first!!!
Thanks a lot Sammy.

Ana, I believe your dad's F2 uses the older 'non-ai' lenses. It is not advisable to use them on a modern digital slr because there is an 'ear' or protrusion on the old lenses that can damage the camera when mounted . The lens you see here is an old lens, but it is an 'AIS' and you can see that by the silver 'ears' with holes on the lens, which can be seen here in the picture, just below, and to the right of the Nikon name on the D200. The 'ears' on your non-ai lenses are solid with no holes. You can have these lenses modified, AI'D, and then they will work. Whether you want to go to the trouble of having this done depends on how many lenses you have in your collection, and how good they are. I will contact you privately with more specifics to your questions. Always enjoy gear talk! :-)

Humm... I see that u are using an older lens with the D200.. So, now it's time to ask the expert... Do you think that I could use the old lenses from my Dad's Nikon F2 in a new Nikon DSLR?? Not that I was considering the D200.. it's way out of my league, but I know the D8 is coming out and well... I am always thinking about a DSLR :)
You know that I have a Sony H1, so obviously I've checked the new Alpha and I really liked it too :)
In terms of DSLR I always thought about buying the Canon 350D and well, that one is actually quite cheap right now, but with the Alpha coming out with not such a enourmously high price and the D80 that seems to be more or less the same price I figure it might be worth the wait instead of going for a Canon 350...
So X man I am asking for your opinion ;)
But take your time, because I don't think I would buy it until the end of the year.
Thanks Sammy :)
