11/05/11: Nikon "1"

Nikon at Photo Plus Expo in NYC.

Hardcore Nikon DSLR people turn away! This my friends, this
was the "almighty" Nikon's main focus at this year's show. Sure they
had all their big guns out there, but make no mistake, this is what Nikon
wanted you to pay attention to. And it's not the models...it's the "1"
system cameras! :)

Sony had all their hottest toys on display as well. The SLT-A77 and NEX-7 garnered
most of the attention, and while I was interested in these cameras, I was
more interested in one thing...Will there be a replacement for the full-frame
A900? And if so, will it have an optical viewfinder? Or will it have an electronic
viewfinder with translucent mirror technology like the A77? These were my questions
for the Sony representatives.

More on Nikon and Sony on my third and last show report on my blog almightycamera.com.

Wonderfully composed. Great atmosphere.

Great timing on this...the models are supposed to distract you from noticing that there were no new pro bodies introduced! I wish these cameras had a bigger sensor..

Great catch of the Nikon 1 Action. BV

Well I'd love to have one just for the 2.7x conversion, add the F mount adapter and my 70-300 VR with the one systems fast focusing. I think it would open up new possibilities. Also the wife loves the look of them (especially the J1), compared to the 4/3rd and Sony NEX. I think they are going to be a hit, just not with the same people who love dSLRs.
