Memory Lane: The Old Hood

Took a stroll in the old hood a couple of years back.
This is in the Grand Concourse area of the Bronx.
Not bad in the day, but at night, watch out! :)

The apartments in this area are amazing; huge rooms,
beautiful architecture. The area changed so much during
the 70's and 80's and drugs, and crime became the name of the game.
I have lots of stories to tell you, including being robbed
by thieves using doberman pinschers, but that's for another day.

The area appears to be undergoing renovation, and things
look better, but not anywhere near its glory days. Still,
I could not help, but feel nostalgic walking the area.

Note: Could've cropped a little tighter, yes, but I kept
it wide, I think it has more impact in this image.

Nice wide view your old hood architecture. You must have a ball getting together with your old neighbors and swapping stories about the good old days.

I like the wide point of view and your own interesting history. Can't wait for the sequel, with the doberman pinschers story revealed..

Great wide view of the Concourse, which looks innocent enough in your photo, but I remember when it was the war zone!

Effective use of the wide angle composition. It's often in the harshest environments that greatest art and artist emerge. After being refined by fire only gold remains. BV

Fascinating story, Sam. I take it you're not planning any night photography there!

This brings back memories...I hung at Poe Park and worked the nightshift at the 149th street PO in the 60s. Parked my car on the concourse and walked. Like you said...things changed....I gotta take a ride down there sometime....this is such a Bronx look!!....V
