The distant island, more a peninsula the last few years, is
now again an island with the return of higher water levels.
I recall hearing a story about this island several years ago from a local resident. Some time
in the mid 19th century, a couple of fishermen built and then lived in an isolated cabin
on the island. One fateful night they knocked back a few drinks at a nearby Charlevoix
tavern and were murdered as they returned home. Those responsible were never identified.
The cabin slowly weathered away and no one ever again lived on the island.
The lake is fresh, the story itself may need a grain or two of salt.
