Hennepin Canal near Lock 17
Concrete right-of-way posts, utility poles, and other concrete items for use along the
canal were manufactured at this location in the first several decades of the 1900s.
Individual batches of cement from turn of the century suppliers tended to vary greatly
in quality. One of the successful innovations of the canal construction was to mix
multiple batches of cement for each use, thus creating a concrete of uniform strength.
