In front of the Monday Night Football national audience, the Raiders had another record-setting victory at the Net. WR Tim Brown became the third all-time player in NFL history with 1,000 career receptions, and also moved into second place in all-time receiving yards, trailing teammate Jerry Rice. QB Rich Gannon tied the NFL record with his ninth 300-yard passing game this season.

The New York Jets won the opening coin toss and elected to receive. Chad Morton received Janikowski's kick off and returned the ball to the 30. On first and 10, Curtis Martin was stopped by Napoleon Harris at the line of scrimmage. On second and ten, DT John Parrella blew up a screen pass to Ritchie Anderson for no gain. On third and 10, Anthony Dorsett tackled WR Wayne Cherbet after a 4-yard gain, bringing up fourth down. Matt Turk's punt went out of bounds at the Raider 33-yard line.

On the Raiders first drive, QB Rich Gannon ran for 6 yards taking them to the 39. Gannon followed up with a 13-yard pass to WR Tim Brown and a Raider first down. Charlie Garner continued the drive with a 4-yard gain, advancing the Raiders to the 44. Garner followed up with a fighting effort at a first down, carrying the ball to the 35, complimented by a 15-yard face mask penalty on the Jets put the Raiders on the 21. A sack on Gannon, brought the Raiders back 7 yards, but a 16-yard pass to WR Jerry Porter gave the Raiders first and goal on the 10. Charlie Garner fought his way to the 5, but the Jets defense held the Raiders who elected to kick a field goal. Janikowski's 23-yard kick was good and put the Raiders on the board 3-0.

Janikowski's kickoff was only returned to the 18 by Chad Morton. QB Chad Pennington scrambled for a gain of four yards, followed by 9-yard run by Curtis Martin for a first down at the 30. A screen pass to LaMont Jordan took the Jets to the 39. On third and one, the Raiders defense stopped LaMont Jordan and forced the Jets special teams to take the field and punt to Charles Woodson, who received the ball at the 18.
A penalty pushed the Raiders back to the 13. A 5-yard pass to Roland Williams took the Raiders to the 18, followed by a 8-yard pass to WR Jerry Rice. On third and two, rookie TE Doug Jolley took the ball to 42, for a Raiders first down. Gannon's 3-yard pass to Charlie Garner was followed up by 19-yard pass to Jerry Porter for a first down on the Jets 42. Two consecutive penalties pushed the ball back to the Raiders 47-yard line.
The second quarter was kicked off by a 14-yard run by Charlie Garner bringing the Raiders to third and seven on the 39. An incomplete pass brought Shane Lechler on the field to punt to Santana Moss. Moss only returned the 34-yard punt five yards, putting the Jets on their own 10. On third and seven, Rod Woodson broke up an attempted pass, forcing the Jets to punt. Charles Woodson returned the ball to the 34.
A 14-yard pass to Jerry Rice gave the Raiders a first down at the 48. Tyrone Wheatley carried the ball three yards, followed up by a 20-yard rocket to WR Tim Brown, putting the Raiders on the 29. Jason Ferguson pulled Rich Gannon back 11 yards, for third and 19 at the Jets 38. After recovering from a stumble, Rich Gannon ran the ball seven yards, putting the Raiders into field goal position. Janikowki's 48-yard field goal increased the Raiders lead to 6-0.

Chad Morton returned the kickoff from the nine 57-yards. Laveranues Coles received a 18-yard pass from QB Chad Pennington. Napoleon Harris answered with a sack on Pennington for a loss of four yards. On third and 10 at the 16, Pennington's pass was incomplete to Santana Moss, bringing up fourth down. John Hall's 35 yard field goal attempt was blocked by Rod Woodson.

On first and 10 Gannon found Garner for a gain of 13 yards and the first down. On the next play Gannon's 20-yard pass to Tim Brown gave the Raiders another first down. Shane Lechler was brought out to punt and Anthony Dorsett was unable to pin the Jets deep.

On first and 10 on the Raiders own 20, Pennington completed a pass to Wayne Cherbet for 37 yards. Pennington's next pass was to Coles for a first down. Curtis Martin then carried for five yards, putting the Jets on second and five on the six yard line. Pennington then found Jerald Sowell in the end zone. John Hall's extra point gave the Jets their only lead of the game at 7-6, to cap off a 4-play, 80-yard, 2:03 drive.

Marcus Knight from the 1-yard line took the ball out to the 25. The next several plays resulted in three penalties against the Raiders forcing Shane Lechler to punt. Santana Moss' punt return moved the Jets to the Raiders 17-yard line. On third and 10 with six seconds left in the second quarter, John Hall kicked a 36 yard field goal, putting the Jets on top 10-6 to end the first half.

The Raiders received the ball to kick off the second half. Marcus Knight returned the ball 12-yards to the 25. TE Roland Williams ran the ball 17 yards giving the Raiders a first down at the 41. Charlie Garner charged nine yards down field for another first down at the Jets 45. Rookie TE Doug Jolley battled his way through the Jets defense for a gain of 19. After a game delay penalty, the Raiders were on the 31, and a 6-yard pass to WR Tim Brown made him the third all-time player in NFL history with 1,000 receptions. Brown was presented with a commemorative ball by Raiders hall of famer Fred Biletnikoff.
Jerry Rice continued the celebrations by taking a 26-yard pass from Gannon to the house, which gave Rice his twelfth 1,000-receiving yard season; another NFL record for the future hall of famer. Janikowski's point after put the Raiders up 13-10.

Pennington's 12-yard pass gave the Jets a first down on the 40. Rod Coleman and John Parrella answered with an 8-yard loss sack on Pennington. Chris Cooper stopped Curtis Martin for a loss of one yard, dragging the Jets back to the 31. Rod Coleman nailed Martin in the backfield for a loss of three yards, forcing the Jets to punt on fourth and 22. Charles Woodson returned Turk's punt three yards, bringing the Raiders to the 36. Gannon's 9-yard pass to Tim Brown was followed up by a sack on Gannon for a loss of 10. Shane Lechler's 38-yard punt was fumbled by Chad Morton after a slam by Marcus Knight. The ball was recovered by Adam Treu on the 12.

Wheatley's 2-yard gain was followed by a 7-yard pass to Tim Brown, putting the Raiders on the three. Zack Crockett carried the ball to the one, and continued the scoring drive by running the ball into the end zone. Janikowski capped off the 4-play, 12-yard, 2:03 drive with a successful point after, and put the Raiders lead at 20-10.

Chad Martin received Janikowski's kick at the 3 and returned the ball to the 30, but a penalty on the Raiders put the Jets on the 35. With 2:00 minutes left in the third quarter, the Jets started the drive with a 19-yard pass to Laveranues Coles put the Jets at first and 10 on the 49. Martin then carried the ball for six yards and a first down. Pennington completed a swing pass to Martin without a gain to end the third quarter.
On second and 10, Pennington passed the ball to LaMont Jordan for a gain of 12 yards and the first down. Curtis Martin carried four yards, and was stopped by Charles Woodson. Martin again was the ball carrier when Eric Barton came up to plug the hole for a loss of four yards. Pennington's pass to Martin was completed without a gain, setting up John Hall for a 45-yard field goal decreasing the Raiders lead 20-13.

John Hall's kickoff to Marcus Knight was brought back to the 25-yard line due to a penalty. Gannon completed a 13-yard pass to Tim Brown for Brown's 1,004 catch making him second in all-time receiving yardage in the NFL to Jerry Rice. Gannon's 14-yard pass to Jon Ritchie tied the NFL record with nine 300-yard passing games in a season. The play set up a Janikowski 37-yard field goal, making the score 23-13 Raiders.

Chad Morton returned Janikowski's kickoff 27 yards to the 29. Pennington's pass was caught at the Raiders 18 by Laveranues Coles. A 5-yard pass to LaMont Jordan put the Jets on the 13. Pennington followed up with a 13-yard pass to Cherbet in the end zone. Hall's point after narrowed the Raiders lead to 23-20, and was the last time the Jets would score.

The Raiders started off the drive with a 15-yard pass from Gannon to Doug Jolley and put the Raiders on their own 41. Gannon followed with a 18-yard pass to Jerry Rice. A face mask penalty on the Jets advanced the Raiders 15 yards to the 24. Tyrone Wheatley charged through the Jets defense seven yards for a Raiders first down.

At the two-minute warning, the Raiders were on third and 14 on the 16. Stopped by the Jets defense, the Raiders were forced to settle for a 29-yard Janikowski field goal, increasing the Raiders lead to 26-20.

The Jets returned Janikowski's kickoff to the 26. An attempted pass to Kevin Swayne was broken up by Terrance Shaw, putting the Jets at second and ten on the 26. On third and 10, the Jets received a first down after a 12-yard pass to Coles. Despite the Jets best efforts in the final seconds of the game, they were unable to catch up with the Raiders and the game ended in a 26-20 victory for the Silver and Black.
