Xi'an, Shaanxi Province - Terra Cotta Soldiers - China (10) September 2007
Xi'an, one of the 4 Ancient Chinese Capitals, is the Eastern Terminus for the Silk Road. More known for the terracotta soldiers and horses of the Qin Dynasty, Xi'an has a magnificient walled city with stunning ancient architecture. Xi'an now plays a major role in China's space program. The terracotta soldiers were found in shards buried for centuries and the pieces found were meticulously put together as whole lifesize soldiers. See Image 140. The emperor's tomb has yet to be excavated.
