Speycasting for Landlocked Salmon - Maine, Sept 2008
• Salmo salar sebago, a subspecies of Atlantic salmon from Lake Sebago, dwell in the lakes and rivers of Maine and Eastern Canada.
• Even with access to the sea, these fish lost their urge to migrate and have characteristics of both river trout and sea returning Atlantic salmon.
• Long spey casts with a selective choice of flies are required to catch these elusive fish. The bucks (with kypes) jump and what splendid fighters! Hens were stockier and fought in the water.
• These landlocked salmon are gorgeous hard fighting fish and are super gamefish.
• All salmon and were returned to the rivers following catch and release principles.
• Largest in Maine, Moosehead Lake area has an abundant population of moose and wildlife and the major outflow is the Kennebec River.
