•Many New York City buildings have roof water towers (for pressure) which are often exposed. There are made like giant whiskey vats with metal rings and are tended to by the Timbermen of Local 1536. These towers are needed because the city's supply pressure is not sufficient to reach the upper floors and during fires, these towers supply the extra water.
There's one on the roof of the old building where I live in Tribeca.
