Bill Cockburn 1919-2004

Bill Cockburn passed away last Tuesday, Oct 21, 2004 after succumbing to brain cancer. He was 85 and served in the US Navy during WWII. He also oversaw the construction of many NYC landmarks, including the World Trade Center, Madison Square Garden, and the Waldorf Astoria. But we remember him most as an avid angler, a gentleman, and one of our past angler presidents.

He loved fishing since he was a teenager. Please look at a few of the images of Bill fishing for trout in 1935. He fished off Montauk and landed some large stripers recently. He attended our directors' dinner last month despite his failing health. I heard that even in his final days, he had vivid moments of "fighting some big fish!"

We will miss him dearly.
