On the coast near Jökulsárlón, a lagoon filled by melt water and icebergs from Breiđamerkurjökull, the beach is composed entirely of black sand. Chunks of ice of varying sizes decorate the beach.

In the photo the rising sun lights up a small piece of sculpted ice as a receding wave provides a reflective surface.
