That lamp. I recall Dick & R.O. got rid of it after it shocked her when she was changing a bulb. What likely happened, was, the unpolarized plug was plugged so the unswitched side, the screw base holder, was 'hot' even with the switch off. Easy to get zapped even with nothing wrong. Today's polarized plugs (tall & short slot and prong) are meant to prevent that.
