Colaptes auratus
This bird is probably a cross between the Red-shafted and Yellow-shafted races
of the Northern Flicker. We have seen this bird in the back yard for at least three years,
unless there's more than one around here marked like this (red mustache and red chevron on
the back of the head). This is the first time I have seen him this year.
