About Lavern Brann
Police Detective Lavern Brann, 44, made a mark on Battle Creek through his community involvement. He was:
Chosen Battle Creek Police Department's "Officer of the Year" in 2002.
Honored as an American Red Cross Every Day Hero and honored by The Advocates at St. Philip for his work to protect children.
Named "Police Officer of the Year" by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Vice president of the Pennfield Schools board of education; involved with Pennfield parent-teacher-student organization.
Involved with the Peer Listening program, American Red Cross, Emergency Preparedness Expo and the Substance Abuse Council.
A community service officer, field training officer, bloodborne pathogen coordinator; worked in the narcotics unit, detective bureau, crisis negotiation, emergency response team; investigator of violent crimes against people, all while working for the Battle Creek police.
