This was alternated between Australia and New Zealand but is now a annual event in Australia. Held in September in the Coffs Harbour hinterland area which has a varied terrain and a mix of spectoator areas to show cars with air or water crossings or just plain lots of dust.
Dust and water when frozen with a short shutter speed, shows a lot of the car speed and make for more dramatic shots.
3 days of events must be gruelling for the drivers and crew as usually the weather is 25 - 30 in dusty and hot "boxes". Dust, stones & muddy water is a killer when trying to keep gear clean.
One hindrance that is becoming more prevalent is the official photographers' disdain of those behind the spectator lines. With international photographers a warning to watch out for the snake usually gets them moving but does not work with local photographers.
